DTN COMMENTS: A rather slow start in cash cattle country with bids
nowhere to be found this morning. Asking prices are around $228-plus in
parts of the South but not established in the North. While we may see
packer inquiry improve as the day progresses, it is likely that
significant trade volume will be delayed until Thursday and/or Friday.
Beef cutouts are expected to be higher with light to moderate box
movement.
A few heifers sold in Kansas yesterday at $225, and just a handful of
steers moved in Iowa at $235, certainly not enough trade to establish any
kind of accurate trend for the week.
NOTE: Feedlots are encouraged to call DTN with any cattle sales, at
1-402-461-3561. All sales will be listed anonymously and organized by
state. All live sales are FOB and set for 1-9-day delivery. A weekly
summary from this data will be posted on the Weekly Cattle Sales Reported
to DTN page and will be left up for the entire week for reference
purposes.
